Parisa Karimi Alias rangbarang.
Born in Berlin in 1981. Studied media art, animation and film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and philosophy at the University of Cologne. She works as a filmmaker, animator, inter-media scenographer and lecturer. As director of the HeimatlosGrenzenlos project, she has led education projects in collaboration with museums and film festivals since 2013.
In her artistic work she addresses postcolonial issues and sociological and philosophical questions: how can we expand our awareness of time, space, other subjects and life forms? How can we transform the boundaries of established histories? Through interactive interfaces, projection mapping and sound, her installations create site-specific immersive spaces that weave together elements of documentation, fiction and animation.
Karimi’s works have been shown and received awards at numerous international film festivals including the European Mapping Festival (FR), LPM (I), VISIO (BR), the European Short Film festival MIT (USA) and the Environment Arts Festival (IR).
Her most recent solo exhibitions were digging.connecting.becoming. (2020), x_topia (2019) and Kartographierte Impulse einer Bewegung (2016), all of which were shown at the Moltkerei Wekstatt in Cologne.
