How do we build a house together? How can the future Pina Bausch Centre become a place where everyone feels at home? Where different opinions and points of view are respected? Where not just the loudest and most influential voices are heard? How can we create an open house fit for the 21st century: sustainable, pluralistic, socially engaged, creative? Local yet global?

Innovative, creative and experimental: from 21 to 29 November 2020, the Pina Bausch Centre under construction celebrates its digital launch, which will be zoomed directly into the homes of Wuppertalers and dance enthusiasts worldwide. Full of courage and joy even in these difficult times, under construction invites international guest artists, dancers, researchers and the people of Wuppertal to embark on a journey of discovery. We will explore what togetherness can mean in a pandemic and in lockdown, and discover new spaces for art and dance in the 21st century.

Our motto is: “We are building a house together”. In online workshops, live streams, panel discussions, podcasts and digital activities, we will develop multiple visions for a future Pina Bausch Centre: local but well-connected, with friends and partner organisations all over the world.

With pupils from Wuppertal, the tanzChor60+ of the Bergische Musikschule, Power of Color Wuppertal, WoW-Women of Wuppertal – a choir of women from many different countries, the ‘Archive of Dreams’ (in collaboration with women’s organisations and refugees), the freies netz werk )) KULTUR, dancers from the independent scene in Wuppertal, the artists of Encounters, international partner organisations such as Sadler’s Wells in London (UK) and the dancers of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

We are ushering in a new era with more than 30 interactive activities: baking fortune cookies, daily digital warm-ups for the whole family, workshops (from yoga to Gaga and contemporary dance), artistic interventions, masterclasses, films, music, dance films, podcasts, panel discussions, outdoor projects and live streams. under construction is searching for a house fit for the 21st century.
